Fractional Treatments

There’s many reasons we love our Pico Discovery Pro! One big component it has that many other lasers don’t is a fractional setting.  Fractional lasers are widely known for skin resurfacing, but that’s not all it does!  It is very effective in aiding in tattoo removal. Read on and we will discuss a few benefits of fractional treatments.

Resolving Scar Tissue:

When you get a tattoo, the skin is punctured hundreds or thousands of times with ink tipped needles.  Since those needles breach the skin during this process, it is considered to be a form of trauma to the area, and can therefore sometimes have slight scarring.  Thicker lines or more pressure applied on some areas can be the cause of some scar tissue. It may not always be present, but it can sometimes raise up from changes in body temperature, weather conditions, or general health, and is typically nothing to be concerned about. However, when removing a tattoo, that thicker scar tissue has a tendency to encapsulate the ink and limits the body’s ability for successful removal.  Luckily, the fractional setting on our Pico Discovery Pro is great for helping resolve scar tissue.  It works by vaporizing small columns into the skin.  Your body will work overtime to rebuild collagen and elastin in the area, effectively improving skin texture and tone.

Preventing Blistering:

Those channels that are created by the fractional will also work like a chimney, and will allow heat and gases to escape without building up pressure. This will protect the skin from damages from higher fluences and reduce the risk of blistering and scarring from your tattoo removal treatment, and aids in easier and more comfortable healing and downtime.

Inviting Your White Blood Cells to the Party:

When those columns are vaporized into the skin, it is considered a minor injury to the area. Your immune system will respond by sending fluid and white blood cells rushing to the area to fix that injury. Since fluid movement and your immune system play such a large role in tattoo removal, that increase in white blood cell activity will help facilitate movement of more ink, yielding to a more effective treatment.
